How to share Apple Health steps and sleep with AI

You do not always need another app. Use a built-in connection if your AI offers one, an export for a one-time review, or a compatible agent connection for repeat access. Here is where FitKiku fits—and where it does not.

Choose the route that matches your question

  • “Can ChatGPT read my Apple Health data?” Check its built-in Health feature first. Eligibility and rollout vary; an iPhone is required to connect Apple Health.
  • “I want to review several months of health history.” A file export or a local analysis tool is a better fit than FitKiku's bounded recent steps and sleep summaries.
  • “I want my own AI agent to read recent steps and sleep.” Consider FitKiku if your agent supports its pairing protocol and can securely store its credential.

1. Connect Apple Health inside ChatGPT, when available

OpenAI currently documents Health for eligible adults in the US, with gradual availability. In the ChatGPT iOS app, open Health and choose the Apple Health connection, then select the categories you want to share. Check OpenAI's current instructions rather than assuming an ordinary chat or every account has this option.

If that already covers your needs, there is no reason to install FitKiku just to duplicate it. FitKiku is independent of OpenAI and is not an official ChatGPT connector.

2. Export health data for a one-time analysis

An export is a snapshot, not a live connection. Apple's export contains a broad health archive; do not upload the entire archive when a small selection of steps or sleep would do. Check your AI provider's retention and data-use settings before sharing anything.

For a technical, local workflow, the open-source healthsync project parses Apple Health exports into SQLite and exposes a CLI for queries. Its maintainers document setup and agent skills. This is an alternative, not a FitKiku integration or an independently tested recommendation. A later export is needed to update the imported history.

3. Share recent steps and sleep with a FitKiku-compatible agent

FitKiku is a free iPhone app for read-only daily steps and sleep summaries, visible freshness, missing-data status and revocable access. It does not export your entire Health archive, share heart rate or workouts, or include its own AI fitness coach.

  1. Check that your agent can follow the FitKiku setup protocol. A prompt alone cannot give an ordinary chat a new integration.
  2. Install FitKiku, copy its setup prompt into that agent, and open the Pair Link the agent returns on your iPhone.
  3. Review the destination and read-only scope before approving. Separately allow Steps and Sleep access in Apple Health.
  4. Check the last-sync time and coverage before asking the agent to use the summaries. Missing data is not zero.

Current App Store release: 1.0, in configured non-EU storefronts. The simpler in-app private-link handoff for ordinary AI chats is an unreleased 1.1 candidate. Do not install 1.0 expecting that flow. Daily summaries in 1.0 use Europe/Kyiv dates.

Apple Watch data and background updates

FitKiku reads Apple Health on the iPhone, not the Watch directly. Watch data must reach the paired phone first. iOS controls background opportunities, so a connection does not mean real-time updates. Open FitKiku to catch up if the last-sync time is old; do not interpret an absent day as inactivity or no sleep.

Ask the AI to check freshness before answering

Use only the steps and sleep summaries you can actually read. First state the latest local date and whether the data is current, partial or missing. Describe recent patterns; do not infer missing values, diagnose a condition, or claim you have live access if the fetch fails.

This is an analysis prompt after connection, not an installation command. Never paste credentials or a private health link into a public post.
